Obituary

Dr. Denis Miles Montgomery, 81, longtime Poplar Bluff Chiropractor passed away Thursday, March 31, 2022, in Poplar Bluff and entered into the gates of Heaven.

Dr. Montgomery was born October 17, 1940, to Burl Dean and Nellie Merrill (Pickett) Montgomery in McDonald, Kansas.  In 1965 he graduated from Palmer College of Chiropractic, a private Chiropractic College in Davenport, Iowa. Palmer College was established in 1897 by Daniel David Palmer and was the first school of Chiropractic.  In 1966 he moved to Poplar Bluff and established his practice, which has thrived for 55 years.  He was a member of the Jaycees and The Missouri Chiropractic Association.

Dr. Montgomery was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed quail and pheasant hunting.  He loved training English Pointer bird dogs for quail hunting and enjoyed competing in field trials with the dogs that he trained.  He enjoyed fishing, bowling, golf and photography. He also loved aviation and obtained his pilot's license and was a member of the Experimental Aircraft Association.

His greatest pleasure was spending time with his family and in later years he found great joy in spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.  He was of the Baptist Faith and attended South Poplar Bluff General Baptist Church.

Survivors include his loving wife Carolyn (Tobey) Montgomery of the home. They were married on August 24, 1963, and shared 58 years of marriage. Together they had four children: David Montgomery and his wife, Terrie of Poplar Bluff, Kimberly Barrentine and her husband, William of Nixa, Missouri, Michael Montgomery and his wife, Shania of Jonesboro, Arkansas, and Brian Montgomery and his wife, Mona of New Haven, Missouri; 8 grandchildren: Justin Montgomery, Stephanie (Ryan) Pennington, Elizabeth (Nathan) Montgomery, Zachary, Cory, and Kayla Barrentine, Macy and Sydney Montgomery; two great-grandchildren: Miller and Jude Pennington, and siblings, Connie (Russell) Bretz and Monty (Mark) Montgomery.
